Born in 1957, I have lived by, within sight of, or near the sea (or rivers) for most of my life.  The family home I grew up in is only 7 metres from a coastal cliff edge.  As a kayaker, I can often be found on the sea and sometimes, unfortunately, under it!

In 1980 I was incredibly fortunate to be awarded one of the 12 free Ph.D. grants available in the United Kingdom.  A self guided study of ancient world metalsmithing technology and techniques, focusing particularly on Japanese alloys, followed at the Victoria and Albert Museum (London). Both influences inform my work.

In 2008 I formed The Beautiful Splint Co (CIC) with Naomi Holman, a not for profit organisation making specialist splints and supports in precious metal for clients with rheumatoid arthritis and hypermobility etc.
